for Patricia

Can't be

ordinary day
shattered
can't be!
dead - you?
impossible
healthy
young
planning
beloved
dead?
you
can't be.

Now what?

No reason
No sense
death out
of season
and we
struggle
with how
to mourn.
flowers
words
memorial
can't restore you
alive, at your desk
can help us honor
your life, create
legacy from
disruption.

- Victoria Sullivan Hendricks (my aunt, a writer and therapist, who shares in our sadness from afar by writing these poems for Patricia, beautifully expressing our disbelief and mourning.)

We love you, Trish.
